What Scouts get up to

The Scout Section is for young people, usually aged between 10½ and 14 years. A young person can come in to the Troop at 10 and may stay until they are 15 years old.

We have two Scout Troops, both of which meet on Friday evenings, so we tend to make full use of both our HQ and our local campsite. We encourage everyone to participate in all our activities - we just want everyone to have FUN!

Scouts take part in a balanced programme that helps them to find out about the world in which they live, encourages them to know their own abilities and the importance of keeping fit and helps develop their creative talents. It also provides opportunities to explore their own values and personal attitudes

Outdoors

Being outdoors is important and half the Programme is given over to taking part in both the traditional Scouting skills, such as camping, survival and cooking as well as the wide range of adventurous activities, anything from abseiling to yachting.

International Experience

The international aspect gives Scouting a special appeal and many Scouts now travel abroad during their time in the Section. In 2002/3 25,000

Scouts from around the World attended the World Jamboree in Thailand. Even more are expected to attend the World Jamboree in The United Kingdom in 2007.

5th/10th has developed an international link with the Scouts in Latvia

In 2001 a Group of Latvians were able to attend the West Sussex Scouts International Camp WS2001 and a 10 day return visit was made in 2002 by a party of 18 Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Leaders.

Since then Latvian and 5th/10th Horsham Scouts have remained in contact and it is hoped that this link will continue for many years to come.

For boys and girls

5th/10th Scouts welcome boys and girls. If you think you think that your child would like to join then they would be welcome to come along and try it for a few weeks. Contact one of the scout leaders for more details.
